Very short hobbit review:

Hobbit movie is not a bad fantasy epic.

Is not, unfortunately, The Hobbit. The Hobbit is a morality tale with some very specific values; it does not involve active combat breaking out every five minutes

I don't think I'm ever going to be able to see that movie. (Too much love for the animated one that I imprinted on as a wee child...)

It wasn't bad, but to appreciate it, I had to stop expecting anything that was "The Hobbit" as I knew it.

There were a couple of female dwarves in the opening shot of the Dales. A couple of them had long side beards, but they were definitely women.
