Spanish...

I'd like to learn how to speak Spanish. And not only because I'm going to a Spanish-speaking country for my honeymoon (although it wouldn't hurt to know it), but because I've been having a learn-a-new-language craving for a while, and while I could go back and improve my French (which is poor, at best), I'd rather learn something completely new. I taught myself a little bit of basic Spanish on my lunch hours at my job in Toronto. There are a lot of free "teach yourself Spanish" websites with audioclips out there. Sure, you have to look at ads and stuff, first, but you can get the basics.

I've lost most of it now, but I initially learned Japanese quite decently well by reading lesson-by-lesson books for theory and then watching/listening to TV shows to get the pronounciation. It's a really great way to get common grammatic usage you wouldn't ordinarily.

Just be careful to pay attention to what Spanish you're learning.. there are about a billion dialects out there so it's best to pick the one that will be the most useful to you.

I went to school with a girl from Argentina who had a really funny story -- her parents had friends who were from Costa Rica, and they had gathered for dinner one night. At some point in the evening the friend's mother sat down in a funny way that ripped the slit in her dress. The man from Costa Rica said "Your slit just got longer." However, in the Argentinian dialect her parents spoke, he said "Your dick just got bigger." Hilarity ensued. :)
