This was in response to my mother's asking me if I was doing okay, on Wednesday, as she heard about Proposition 8 passing.
And yes, this really is the email I sent to her and yes, my family really does send each other emails of this sort. This is typical.

Wow daughter#1 that is some special relationship you have with your mom. It's clear that you already realize that but just had to second it from a third part "objective" observer.

Yes, sometimes a smile is not a smile but a mask for the pain you must carry and a defiance to those that would choose to make your frown. I'm glad you can dance in spite of this. Hey, at least you can dance, not something particular in my skill set.

I say, if you are strong willed enough, better to live a life of intentionally naivete and keep yourself open to the possibility that things will always get better around the corner. Hope is an essential part of the human condition and as you said in an earlier entry, the future president prominently mentioned gay rights in his acceptance speech. Just keep the faith, check the tattoo time to time for strength, and dance, definitely dance.

You know... it's so odd to see "daughter#1" out there - I hadn't thought much about it when I posted it, but reading it in your comment is strange. I have no idea how long my sister and I have been referred to as "daughter #1" and "daughter #2" but it's been long enough that it's a very familiar thing. And the now-evil-ex was "daughter #3" for a few years. The names have a nice ring to them ( ... )

I promise, this is the last spamming I will do on your LJ entries today - gotta grade bunches of term papers on Computer Ethics anyway. It's just that I seem to have "Frenchette" by David Johansen playing in my head at the moment..."I've been to France, so let's just dance" - ok - back to work, dishes, laundry, and other pedestrian stuff.

Always always "spam" my lj entries.
Because, from you, it's not spam.
It's filet mignon.
