"Brother," Melehan says quietly. For once, he is feeling equally confused and lost and like he's done everything wrong, which is probably the only thing keeping him from remembering he's supposed to be mad at Melou.

"Wherefore?"

"I was stupid."

[rebel_son]

Almost bitterly, "Father thinks not so."

[lesser_son]

Melou bites his lip. "Sometimes I think he is mad. But he is so young. Only a little older than us."

"He is our father."

[lesser_son]

"I know. But he is not the same."

[rebel_son]

"And what of it? You and he are of a mind-- the war is done, we have no enemies here, you may wed who and when you will."

[lesser_son]

"He does not like me," Melou says, and clearly believes it. "But there is a think we should do, that he would not approve."

"Ay?"

[lesser_son]

"Punish Sagramore."

This is dual purpose, because Melou figures getting to do something martial will cheer Melehan up.

[rebel_son]

"For what? The war is done. He is not our enemy." Bitter, bitter.

[lesser_son]

"He is mine," with an anger that's not typical of Melou.

[rebel_son]

"Ay? Wherefore?"

[lesser_son]

"For his betrayal." In several senses, sadly, since Melou is feeling possessive of Courfeyrac as well. HIS friend, dammit.

"And what of all the rest?" he demands.
