Buy an AP Stylebook if you haven't already...it's the number one way to ensure you look like you know what you're doing in the world of journalism. Believe me, you WILL use it...it's an alphabetical listing of the correct forms of, well, EVERYTHING as decided by the Associated Press.

(If you already know all this, then I'll shut up. But as a school-paper monkey writer for three semesters, I know it really makes a difference.) And yes, I can compare with feeling like the publication is total crap. Sometimes it will be. But other times, when you write something controversial and stir the stew a bit, it can be really fun. Just wait till you get your first angry letter to the editor! :D That's how you know people are actually reading your stuff. Good luck!
