hey, i hope you don't mind that i added you as a friend- not sure if you saw my comment in your friends-only post :)
anyways YES I AGREE ABOUT THIS EPISODE. IT HAD ALL MY PRIMARY SHIPS PLUS SOME CUTENESS (like Pierce being nice to Shirley). AND I LOVED TROY! AND BRITTA! AND ANNIE! AND ABED!
this was probably one of my favorite Community episodes ever.
It's 100% cool! I did see your message, but I've been kind of absent from LJ recently just because of school junk, so I've been putting off responding/friending back. XD
FIXED NOW!
There was SO MUCH in this episode to love! I do think, like Basic Rocket Science, this is an episode that could have really benefited from being an hour long. What we got, was AMAZING, but if we'd had another 30 minutes to push it all home even stronger? YES.
Troy is my favorite character so this was just heaven for me. I actually called him not getting drunk on his birthday a long time ago (though I didn't really say it out loud - just knew that I wanted it to go that way) so him being... so perfectly him and taking care of everyone and seeing their sadness and putting them before himself was... so perfect. I love him. MY FAVORITE.
oh i love Troy too! i think what i loved most about the episode was that it focused on the CHARACTERS, not the comedy. i realize that Community is a sitcom but unlike others it's also filled with dynamic, layered characters, and giving the writers (and audience) the chance to explore them on a deeper level.
thinking about it, i think Troy and Annie were my favorite characters, but i had sympathy for Shirley and Abed.
It's okay, I mean, I saw something that made me happy but D: D: now I KNOW. I mean, it's not the end of days, but thank you for cutting for the rest of the world!
No, I feel like ridiculously bad about spoiling you. I hate when that happens to me and for some reason I just assumed all the Community fans on my flist would have already seen the episode even though I KNOW THAT'S NOT TRUE SO WTF. I suck. SO MUCH.
Heyyy, I added you, is that okay? I totally stalked this post from our discussion at the comm, and I just feel totally the same thing that you do, and I thought THIS COULD BE THE BEGINNING OF A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP, or something less cheesy.
Also, SO MUCH WORD to your side note, that sort of thing bothers me so much. It's like every shipper assumes that because Jeff and Annie have ~chemistry that they're meant to be together, instead of J & B. Well, guess what, nobody is meant to be together, all these characters could be with each other but they'd all have to work at it because they can't count on magic ~chemistry and ahh. I SHIP AND I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS BAR.
You know I don't really care about ships (I actually think the high of the episode was Jeff and Britta making out... as in... the SHOCK thing).
But... This episode... I didn't like it... I don't feel like it was complete... to me this was like the draft of something that could have been brilliant, but ended up just being like an exposition of facts that will help shippers in their fanfiction.
I don't hate it, I just think it's not memorable...
I thought it felt complete and I think there was some brilliant character stuff in there, but I also feel like it definitely could have been easily extended. This one, along with Basic Rocket Science, would have been 1000x more awesome if it'd been allowed to be an hour long. Things went by super fast.
