In which a problem is not really solved...

Late one night, before Penny creeps out of Sefton's bed and back to the barracks, he and she speak of the future, and don't get very far. Another little glimpse of humanity, for those who doubt he possesses any.

We will discuss it another time. )

They are such a strange mix of perfectly matched and utterly dysfunctional. If Penny only knew how much he hates making her sneak around, she'd be so appalled.

Yet again, Sefton finds a way to make things work, if only for two more years. Penny is starting to think he could stop the sun if he really wanted to.

So much love for this scene -- thank you for playing with me, as always. <3

It is moments like this that make it very hard for Roa not to storm into Sefton's office, grab him by his collar, and shake while demanding "What are you doooooooing!"

He is having his cake and eating it too, what does it look like he's doing? ;)

His secret cake, that he has to hide in his desk. So when people are watching he can instead be eating a very fancy fruitcake which will, in the long run, severely upset his stomach.

I always love reading Sef and Penny, but I love this scene especially in the context of the scene posted just below this, with Paige. I'm not sure what order they're supposed to have happened in ICly, but that offer is all the more interesting given that Sefton knows now that beyond the general scrutiny someone in his position would always be under, there's actually someone actively attempting to find out his secrets. I'm not sure whether he's even more arrogant about his own ability to handle everything and everyone than I thought, or if he's just reckless where Penny is concerned, but either way, it's interesting.

What keeps getting me, and what I keep looking at over and over, is him saying, twice, 'We will discuss it another time.' The construction is completely academic, unspecific, cold. She responds to it in a way that makes me think she hears it as it sounds, an indifference, a dismissal. But I think it was a shield, a defense.
