I do not trust you any further than I can throw you! I know what you're like! I'm beginning to sound like Miniyal, oh dear.

What I liked best about this was the perspective of the outsider coming in, and the contrast between what he assumes, and is surprised to see (particularly the dragons, that they're really there) and what the residents of Five Mines take for granted. Corvet and Ilonzo are unsavoury without being terrifying; aren't they wonderful? Just enough to make you wonder about them, without being able to produce a real reason that you could speak out loud as to why you're wondering. Sedge hits all the right notes, and keeps his cards juuuust perfectly close to his chest. The exchange at the end is wonderful.
