In Vegas besides drinking and carousing and all those good things I will also be going to a spa (a lovely birthday gift) to fix the damage these things do. I love Vegas because it is completely and utterly a frothy, useless place. It also probably signals the decline of Western civilisation but I shall be like a Roman at the end of the empire and just ignore that bit.

Haha, yes! I love Vegas for precisely the same reasons. I'd meant to go there last winter, but didn't get around to it somehow. Ah well.

Vegas is a terrible, terrible place - whenever I look at it I think about what an environmental disaster it is and how wasteful. Yet I cherish that it has no point but to entertain and be completely useless. And allow me to gamble and drink fruity drinks in strange bars.

I hope you have a great time in Las Vegas! I just got back from there, so if they're anything you'd like to know, I can fill you in based on my recent experience!

I can heartily recommend the Petrossian Bar in the Bellagio for good drinks. They aren't cheap, but SOOOOOOO good.

Thanks! Sadly I got this too late to take advantage. I've never drank in the Bellagio - I'll have to try that bar next time!

So what's been your favorite kdrama so far?

South of the Border... is my favorite of Murakami, and there are a few lines near the end that I think are the most beautiful things ever.

So far it's been Tree of Heaven, which is shamelessly melodramatic and over the top but still works (for me, at least). And it's only 11 episodes so they can't spin it out too long. I quite liked Full House and I have a few others waiting to be viewed.

I enjoyed South of the Border but Hardboiled Wonderland is still my favourite of his books. It was the first of his I read and I just loved, loved it.
