Hello people. I'm here to be voted upon. *smiles*
1. Name:
Amy Elizabeth Kinsman :)
2. Age:
15, but 16 shortly.
3. Birth date:
6th August 1993.
4. Height:
5"2 or 157 centimeters (pretty small, really).
5. Location:
One of those crappy little suburban towns with patches of farmlands on the outskirts of Manchester, England. I live opposite a farm that's shortly going to become houses that we don't have the road space to accomodate the cars of. Yeah, evil land owners throwing the farmer out.
6. Five Adjectives to Describe Yourself:
Talkative, Imaginative, Annoying, Argumentative, Affectionate.
7. Interests:
Writing: I write both fanfiction (quite a bit of it being slash, or porn without plot, bearing in mind I am an extremelly hormonal teenager) and original fiction, but I find that my best writing is of the latter variety. I also write the occasional poem, but I will spend days slaving over it until I have it to the standard of a poor Simon Armitage effort. Some of my friends are already fans of my work and it is my dream to become a published author. Sometimes, I will write an article for Mibba (an online creative writing site that I virtually live on) and I wish to become a journalist while I'm still waiting for my literary breakthrough.
Judo: I have an orange belt in Judo, which is one of the main reasons that I'm not fat yet. This is quite odd, as I loathe participating in all other forms of sport and am very inadept at doing so. My main issue is that I have no balance, although I am quite supple, meaning that my inability to be arm-locked or strangled infuriates the lads at the club. I also enjoy watching Judo whenever it is on television, especially Craig Fallon matches.
Music: I love my music and have quite a broad taste in it for a person of my age. I read the NME magazine religiously, and hope to write for it one day. I never go anywhere without my iPod and find myself tapping along with anything I'm listening to. I also do the occasional bit of singing, and have been offered a place in my Mum's coral-singing group (which I'm not totally sure is a good thing). I am learning to play guitar, but my aspiration is to play bass. I am in an almost-band, which will play together once I can play bass adequately.
The Internet: I love it as a whole, and spend far too much of my time on it. I tend to gravitate towards anything with internet access when left to my own devices and get extremelly frustrated when I can't connect to it (seriously, it's like PMS).
Reading: I just love refinind myself with what I read and gaining extra knowledge. I am well known for reading the textbook in class when bored. I find that a person can be defined by the calibre of their reading material, and so I've been slowly making my way through 1001 books to read before you die. I'm up to 64 checked off so far.
8. Personal Strengths:
My personal strengths are my exuberant imagination and creativity. I can often be found inserting strange references into conversations and coming up with a series of fun ideas for what might happen if I was let loose on Manchester with a digital camera. I can often come up with something entertaining to discuss with people or annoy a person with. I am also quite intellectual in both the Arts and Sciences, although my technical skills often aren't brilliant. I have a fact bank in my brain that I have accumulated, to the point at which people come to me with obscure questions that I can usually answer. I am excellent at arguments and debating, woe betide you if I am not on your side, unless it is against my father. I also have a knack for cheering depressed people up and have been told that I take criticism very well.
9. Personal Weaknesses:
Unfortuantely, I can become quite irritating (and have been told so frequently). This is frequently out of my talkative nature, but can be due to my stubborness and refusal to back down (which can land me in deep water from time to time). I can let my mouth rule my brain at times and offend people by bringing up something I wasn't supposed to without meaning to. I am also quick to anger and rant to express this. I dislike it when people become very dramatic and depressed/moody over something trivial/the same thing over and over. I also dislike people that continually make the same mistakes. I can fly of in a rage at people I dislike and refuse to talk to them for days, letting my pride get the better of me.
Oh, and did I mention that I fail at P.E.?
10. Talents:
I am academic, predicted very high grades in my exams in both the sciences and the arts (apart from actual Art, where I'm average). I can sing, although I'm not the best. I am also quite good at Judo and guitar. I pick up language with relative ease, but my main talent would be writing.
11. General Favorites (and why)
a. Non-VC Book(s):
My favourite author would be Walter Moers, who writes fantasy/comedy books based on extra continents he has invented and their bizarre inhabitants and creatures, which are translated from Dutch. They are absolutely captivating and hilarious. I read many translations at the moment, such as Haruki Murakami books and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I enjoy a variety of books, but dislike the simplistic style of many modern books. I enjoy graphic novels/comic books, especially of the Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman variety. I also enjoy psychological thrillers by the Kellerman family and classics such as Oliver Twist and Dracula. Terry Pratchett is another of my favourite authors, his series being unbelievably entertaining. I find modern classics, such as George Orwell, John Steinbeck, William Golding and J.D. Salinger books inspiring and wonderful. Despite all this, my original love was sci-fi by the better authors, such as Adams, Heinlen and Whydam.
b. Non-VC Movie(s):
I find that the very best films are often ones that no-one but I seem to have seen. My favourite ever would be a French-language film by the name of Amelie (or Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain) with Audrey Tautou and Mathieu Kassovicz, for it's heart-warming story and hilarity. Another of my favourites is Sky Captian And The World Of Tomorrow, with Jude Law and Giovanni Ribisi, two of my all-time favourite actors. Billy Elliot, however, was the film where I first fell in love with Jamie Bell, the greatest actor I've ever seen on the big screen, who made the transition from child-actor to recognised actor look easy.
c. Language:
My first language is English, although I have just sat a GCSE exam in French, for which my target is an A (I think i've got it). I also speak rudimentary German, however it is a dream of mine to be able to say "my hovercraft is full of eels" in as many languages as possible. I'm up to six so far.
d. Music:
As I said, my taste is extremelly varied. My main genre is Rock, although I also enjoy Folk, Funk, Pop, Dance and Experimental. My friend recently got me into Trock, short for Time Lord Rock, which is Doctor Who-based Fan-Rock. I am inclined towards underground acts rather than big names and my favourites at the moment are Laura Marling, Pulp, Foals and The Ghost Frequency. This will, no doubt, change the moment I post this application. I loathe generic, factory made pop music and pointless, money-grabbing, filth spouting rap songs.
e. Historical Period(s):
I am very much interested in Modern World History (i.e., 1900 until present day). The GCSE syllabus was fascinating to me, particularly the World Wars. I get very emotional over history and was reduced to tears by the Holocaust page in the textbook. The Inquistion period in Europe also fascinates me.
f. Myth(s):
My first love, naturally, was Greek Myths, especially those concerning the likes of Artemis and Adonis. Since then, I have grown attatched to Oriental-Myths and those of Slavic/Eastern-European origin, particularly those concerning vampire-like beings. I find urban/modern myths quite funny, although unbelievable and paper thin.
g. Quote(s):
"My hovercraft is full of eels." - Monty Python
"Without you, today's emotions would be the scurf of yesterday's." - Hipolito in Amelie
"When one burns books, one ultimately burns people." - Heinrich Heine
12. How many books of the Vampire Chronicles have you read?
Three, based on what the sum total of my pocket money and the library have been able to give me: Interview with the Vampire, Queen Of The Damned and Blood And Gold. I know I'm reading out of order, but shush.
13. Which book was your favorite? Least favorite? Why?
I liked Queen Of The Damned best, because I fell in love with Daniel. I found it much better paced than either of the other ones, and the interlocking storylines were fascinating. I found that Interview With The Vampire's beginning dragged a little and it took a while to get going properly.
14. Would you like to become a vampire? Why or why not?
I myself am not afriad to die, rather afraid to grow old and afraid to not live. I want to be able to fit everything in before age or death, whichever is fastest, catched up with me and if that means I have to become a vampire to do it, so be it. I'm not sure I would cope brilliantly well with the feeding from people, but oh well...
15. If you did become a vampire and could live wherever you would like, where would you live?
I'm not sure, to be totally honest. I've always wanted to see places like Venice and Rome, Africa and India, but I'm not sure I'd be able to cope with the weather there. Tokyo, perhaps, but it would take me a while to memorise the city. I have a terrible sense of direction. I've always said that I wanted to go somewhere things happen, but I'm not sure if that would be too far out of my depth.
16. Would you mind receiving a cross-gendered stamp?
No. I'm cool with being a guy.
17. Anything else?
Well, (homophobics look away) I'm bisexual. I find women just as interesting sexually as men. I define myself as geek, and I am proud of that. I have issues with sibling rivalry to the point that I can't stand my brother or my sister and prefer to isolate myself from them. Although I can do Maths, I absolutely hate it and I'm glad that I never have to have a Maths lesson again. I love cats, especially my pet cat Wookie (I didn't name her) and think they're fascinating. I prefer Biology to other sciences, but find stars fascinating.
18. At least two pictures of yourself. (Unless you can’t or really don’t want to.)
19. The links to 2 other applications that you have voted on. (ignore if no one needs any)
