Geeez that's terrible and frightening, I hope she gets better soon and the communication improves. I can so relate on the not allowed to eat thing too, jeeze that is awful. Once they thought it was my appendix and it turned out to be cysts on my ovaries, by they thought that they would have to operate so deprived me of food for several days. The first meal I had afterwards was delicious and now I almost always remember the taste of it after fasting that long. Be sure to give her an awesome meal as soon as she can have real food, not too big of portions all in one go though or she could get sick.
