My friend's school did that for undergrad, and it seems like a pretty rotten deal. She said professors would do it randomly a lot of the time, giving an A- if they didn't really like the student but they had still technically earned something in the A range.
I don't know. It seems to me like it would be a problem when applying for a school or job or internship if they looked at your GPA, and didn't understand that unconventional point system.

Omg drives me nuts and I think is very unfair.
My undergrad school did not do that so coming here was kind of a rude awakening.
