there is a movie ? i didn't know. I've read it when i was 15 and i re-read it this past week because i have the urge to read it again. I really like it but it's not my fave gabriel garcia marquez's book. This book brings me a lots of memories, good and bad ones.

i really didn't know about the movie and Oprah's endorsment. i live inside a bubble. :)

hope your week gets better!!:)

I always feel the same way! When I walk into the bookstore and see everyone looking at the display of "Now Playing" books, I tend to roll my eyes. Meh. I guess we should be pleased that people are reading, but it's just the principle of the thing, right? :)

EXACTLY!

I mean, I am happy that people are reading, but sometimes it still bugs me. Though I guess exposing this book to a wider audience is not a bad thing either.

I'm torn on Oprah's Book Club. On the one hand, it really annoys me that these people think they're well-read and educated just because they've flipped through a few of her picks. On the other hand, I bet most of these people who never think to read this kind of literature on their own. It's obnoxious and trendy, but I think it's for a good cause.

(I've never actually read anything by Marquez. I want to! I just haven't gotten around to it. I'm a bad English major. *hangs head*)

You're right. And I am in full support of people reading more. I think this post came off more negative than it should have. I do want people to read and I do want great books to get more exposure, it's just sometimes that exposure irks me you know?

And you're not a bad English major! I actually read those books for my Latin American History class.

That really irked me when The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe came into theaters. It's not quite the same, since CS Lewis is more well-known than Marquex, but I've loved those books my whole life -- my mom read them to my sisters and I before we could read. And (this is a whole different rant) people thought they had to start with the Magician's Nephew!

another perfect example, and you're right, way more well known. And here I admit how hypocritical I am. I actually don't like the Narnia series. I never got past the first book but I really enjoyed the movie. I am hanging my head in shame here.

Hey :)

Unfortunately, that's the way it goes for the most part: see the movie, read the book. LOL. Film theory has its own merits and is an academic discipline with its own brand of literature, but I would rather read the book first. LOL.

luv jackie
