I put my foot down on the mole problem...

... quite literally at that! I went out this morning after I'd gotten up and gotten dressed, and checked the mole trap. Nothing in the trap, and they'd actually tunneled around it. Posh. So I went to checking on the fish pond and all ( Read more... )

Since your pond is new it could also be the pond cycling... Have you tested your nitrate and nitrite?

I would want to say yes, but I don't think it is. I got all the stuff I needed and the water should be fine. The fact that all the fish were doing fine yesterday and all of the others are doing fine today is what gets me. He's the only one seeming icky and swimming slightly wobbily. Like he got hurt somehow. And when I pulled the damned spiked critter out, it was very clear that it'd gotten chewed on. It ended up drowning in the water at the bottom of the pond, obviously, but still.

I might take some of the water in to have it tested again though, just because. But in this case, I don't think it's the water. At least not for the larger fish. Because he was fine yesterday. Least he's still eating.

We used to have some finches (birds), about 20 of the damned things. And we kept them in the living room. Soon after getting them, three of them suddenly fell off their perches, dead. We were sitting in the living room at hte time watching TV. IT was odd, that all of teh suddeny *all three* fell over dead at one point.

About a week later, two more fall dead at the same time. After reading up on them... we finally discovered that Loud noises/music will give a finch a heart-attack and it will fall over dead.

Heh.. we moved them out of the TV room after that :D

That is so odd! I have heard that certain species of birds, especially the smaller ones, are so high strung and overactive that they can be prone to heart attacks. That sudden changes in environment could stress them to the point they just... fall over dead.

Isn't that something?
