An interesting thought occured to me the other day. I've often heard it said that in 'modern times' people are more busy and have less time to do things. How does that make any sense? Well, I suppose we try to lead more varied lifestyles than was once the norm. And perhaps paperwork is more intense than it used to be. But I've done some thinking on ( Read more... )

What is this 'moodernt technology' you speak of, and how can I obtain some?

Maybe because we travel further now than we did? Most workers worked nearby surely? And today you get a lot of people who commute (if that's how you spell it)
Ah, this is like one of those questions where they flip it round the other way, so that you get all confused!
Hmm, maybe because of international businesses. oo oo and also women are going to work, so then the "I don't see my kids enough because I'm so darn busy" comes into play.
Aaaaand oo what about the "time is money" type thing? Thus forcing workers to work faster, making them more busy?

Hmm, I feel I am unable to "put my finger on it" I think I'm satisfied with some of my above points :D

Commuting might just balance out travel, but that still leaves the rest.

I guess women working might make sense if only women said it but men do too. And in any case, I don't think raising a family was a sit-around job, especially in pre-appliance times. It almost conveys the impression that until 1980 everyone sat about in fields staring at the clouds.

Also you can't force workers to do anywhere near as much nowadays as what you could have in the past, so I doubt they're any busier. There was a time when employers didn't legally have to give any breaks at all. The horror!

I think most of it is just people of the current era looking for excuses to be lazy. Gotta be honest here; I've caught myself doing it ^_^
