Chapter 13

From his place at the door, Shou saw Hiroto walked over to her mother and hug her tightly. He also saw the way Hiroto’s mother caressed her son’s hair to sooth him. His heart clenched at the sight. He turned away from the two and hurriedly left the hallway.

Shou woke up with a heavy feeling. He didn’t know why but the memory of Hiroto and her mother hugging kept replying in his mind. Brushing his hair out of his face, he took a glance at his drawer.

He got up and opened the drawer slowly until a small photograph was seen. It was the only picture he had with his parent. In the old photo, seven years old Shou stood in the middle of his father and mother. He had a big smile on his face while the others had a stern look.

Come to think of it, he couldn’t even remember the feel of her mother hug, if there’s ever one. Frowning, he slammed the drawer shut. Why did this feeling come to him now? He slapped himself and got up from the bed. The clock on the table told him that he was almost late to school, but he didn’t care about that.

Shou took his time to change into his uniform. He looked at his mirror image and touched it gently. “Smile, Shou. That’s the only thing you can do.”

**

“You’re late, Kohara!”

“I’m sorry, sir.” Shou smiled politely and bowed at the old teacher.

Startled by the sudden politeness from the boy, the teacher quickly told him to go to his seat.

Shou quickly walked to his seat and took out his books. Minutes later, a folded paper was thrown onto his table. He looked at his side. Saga gestured at him to read the paper.

I need to talk to you.
Don’t go missing at lunch!

Shou winked at his friend and gave a thumb up.

**

“So, what do you want to talk about?”

Saga dragged his chair to his friend’s table. “It’s about Tora…do you think I’m hopeless?” he sighed.

“Of course not! There’s always hope, Sagacchi.” Shou twirled around his pencil.

“But he often talks about Hiroto…” Saga groaned and banged his head on the table. “Does Hiroto ever talk about Tora?”

Shou hit Saga’s head. “Don’t break my table, Saga and yes, he also talks about him sometimes.”

“His name is Tora, Shou.” Saga reminded. “Doesn’t it irritate you?”

“Of course it does! That’s why I told him not to talk about another man.”

Saga banged his head again. “I envy you. I wish I could also say that.”

“Well, why don’t you just say it? It’s not that difficult.” Shou suggested with a grin.

The shorter boy rolled his eyes. “But he would ask me why I want him to shut up in the first place.”

“Good, that’s a perfect moment for you to confess.”

“Easy for you to say…”

Beeeep!

Saga’s cell phone rang. He quickly stopped the reminder. “I almost forgot, I promised Nao to eat lunch with him today.” He stood up. “You’re coming?”

Shou shook his head. “Nah, I still have to do something. You can just go.” He smiled.

Saga widened his eyes at the refusal. “Are you sure? I’m sure Hiroto will be there too.”

The taller man nodded. “I’m just not feeling that hungry.” He shrugged.

“Is there something wrong? I can cancel the promise if you want to talk.”

Shou laughed. “Just go already!” he shooed the other.

“I’ll be at the roof, if you changed your mind.” Saga looked at his friend worriedly before he reluctantly left him.

Watching his friend’s figure slowly disappearing, he pulled out a worn out book and started writing on it.

“Shou-kun~” Not even five minutes later, some girls from his class, called him with a giggle.

“Yes?” The handsome boy secretly sighed to himself before he put on a smile.

Without permission, all the girls pulled some chairs around their idol and pulled out their colorful bento box. “Let’s eat together!”

“But I don’t bring any food.”

All of the girls giggled before they thrust a blue bento box at him. “Here, we’re already prepared one for you.”

“Thank you.” Shou smiled.

“Here, try this one. I made it.” The girl beside him picked up an egg roll and feed it to the taller student.

“Try this one too, Shou-kun!” Another girl shoved her food to Shou.

“And this one!”

“Whoaaa, slow down! I only have one mouth~” The tall boy gulped at the sight of all the girls. Where was Saga when you need him? He always knew what to do at time like this. Or at least their attention will be divided into two between him and Saga. Looking for a way out, he accidentally caught a familiar face, peeking into his class from the glass window.

“I’m sorry, I have to go.” He stood up quickly. “But I will definitely eat this, thank you.” He brought the bento box with him and winked at them, silencing them all with his charm as usual.

Once he was at the deserted hallway, he watched the small boy still peeking into the class. “Searching for me?” he called out, making the boy jumped.

Hiroto turned around to face Shou with a guilty look on his face. “Uhm…I just want to say thank you for yesterday…” He said shyly. “And you didn’t come to the roof with Saga and he said you still in the class so...” He fidgeted a bit as he tried to make sense of his words.

Usually, the sight of Hiroto squirming always made him want to tease the smaller boy but this time, the flashback of Hiroto and his mother hugging were flashing through his mind again.

“How’s your mother?” Shou asked, stopping the other’s rambling.

“She’s fine. I want to take care of her today but she told me to go to school instead.” Hiroto’s face beamed at the reminder of her mother.

Shou smiled. “That’s great.” He ruffled the smaller boy’s head as he walked past him.

HIroto felt like he was dismissed by the older boy and he didn’t like it. “Wait!” he chased after Shou.

“What?” Shou asked without looking at him.

“Ummm…Please tell Kai that I can’t work today. I have to take care of my mom.” Hiroto said.

“Okay.”

Hiroto frowned. It felt like Shou wanted to get away from him. “Hey, why won’t you look at me?”

Shou stopped to look at Hiroto for a brief second. “I’m in hurry, Hiroto.” he continued to walk.

Now Hiroto was sure that there was something wrong with the older boy. He called him with ‘Hiroto’ which he never used again ever since he gave him a pet name. He ran after the taller boy again and turned Shou around to face him. “Are you mad at me?”

“Why would I mad at you?” Shou asked him with a smile.

“Then why do you want to get away from me?!”

Shou brushed him off. “It’s just your imagination.”

Hiroto shook his head stubbornly. “No, it’s not!”

“It is because of my mom’s accident? I know I’m not a very reliable person bu-”

“It’s not that.” Shou cut him off and moved out from Hiroto’s grasp.

The smaller man ran past after the other boy and blocked his way. “I know! You’re mad about the kiss, right?” Hiroto confronted Shou once again. “Fine! Then kiss me!” The younger boy raised his face to the taller boy and shut his eyes tightly.

Looking at the smaller boy’s forced expression, Shou couldn’t help but burst out laughing. He never saw someone offered a kiss with a face that clearly screamed ‘don’t kiss me!’ The boy was really amusing. He really couldn’t keep upset with him. Not with that amusing personality.

He felt embarrassed to feel envious of HIroto. It was not his fault that he had a caring mother. Why did he have to feel melancholic when he saw Hiroto and why did he have to compare his family with Hiroto’s? It was not like himself to have a self pity. They wouldn’t be their self now if they had a different past. It was no use to envy the other’s life. And he was quite happy with the way they turned out now. True, he would always felt a pang of sadness but he knew better than to weeping all day at his unfortunate.

Hiroto’s eyes opened when he heard the sound of laughter. Shou was laughing at him! He could feel his cheeks heated. Seeing the other laugh so freely at him, making him feel embarrassed with his act. Here he was offering his kiss but Shou just laugh, making him felt like an idiot. He pouted.

Shou saw the pout and he leaned down to face the younger boy. “I don’t take charity, Pon.” He grinned when the small boy startled at his sudden move. “But if you insist, I’ll give you one.”

As expected, Hiroto yelped and scrambled away from the suddenly back to normal Shou. “You-”

“Pervert?” Shou continued. “Tsk…tsk…but you’re the one who asking for the kiss first, Pon.” He teased.

“I didn’t!” Hiroto blushed.

Shou bounced over to him. “Aw~ look you’re all shy…it makes me want to kiss you more!” he hug the smaller boy.

Hiroto squeaked and ran away from the hyper boy. “I-I changed my mind!”

“No, you can’t~” Shou chased Hiroto when the boy start to run.
.
“Stay away!” the smaller boy ran even faster.

Grinning, the older boy chased him with a determined face. “You can’t run away from me.”

**

“What are you doing?” Saga and Nao looked up from whatever they were doing to see Tora looming over them.

The duo moved back a little to give the taller man a space to see the item in the middle of the floor. “Gundam kit?”

“Yeah, I asked Saga to help me to make this.” Nao looked proudly at his Gundam model.

“How did you manage to bring this to school?” Tora asked but got no answer from the busy boy.

Not interested, Tora shrugged and looked around for a certain student. “Where’s Hiroto?” he asked when he didn’t see the small boy.

“He went to search for Shou.” Nao answered.

“Hey, why don’t you help us making this?” Saga quickly changed the topic.

Nao shook his head vigorously. “No! He didn’t understand a thing about this! It’ll be ruined!”

Feeling insulted, Tora sat between them and grabbed a random Gundam’s part from Nao’s hand. “I can do it.”

“Umm…you don’t have to force yourself…” Saga’s words were cut off by Tora’s glare.

“I just have to do this, right?” The taller boy picked another random piece and forced it together.

“Noooo!!” Nao grabbed the pieces from Tora’s hands. “You paired it with the wrong part!” The younger boy picked up another piece and showed it to Tora.

“How should I know?” The older boy grumbled as he took another pieces from the floor.

“Uh, Tora. You shouldn’t stick the arm part with the leg part…” Saga picked some pieces and gave it to the taller boy. “Here, just do these parts.”

“I know.”

“Ah, you hold it upside down! Turn it around!” Nao panicked.

Tora frowned at his friend. “No need to yell, Nao.”

“Please, Tora-shi…just back off and sit nicely over there?” Nao pleaded.

“Do I look stupid to you?” He focused all his attention to the toy.

Saga wanted to smile at the stubborn boy. It was his first time to see this side of the usually silent boy. Tora was obviously didn’t know what he was doing but wont admit it. It was kind of…mmm…how to say it? It was annoying and adorable at the same time. Is that even possible?

“Let him try, Nao.”

“Thanks.” Tora smiled at the support.

Saga smiled back and watched the taller boy focused back on the toy.

Suddenly the door to the roof slammed open and someone ran to them. “Tora! Nao! Help!” he yelped when Shou almost caught him from behind.

“Not now, Hiroto.” Tora’s attention was still on the Gundam’s part on his hand.

“But Tora-” Hiroto tried to whine as he avoiding Shou.

The taller boy still didn’t move from his place.

“But Tora, he tried to kiss me!” The smaller boy tried again.

“Not-What?” That did it. Tora got up at once and tried to stop Shou who chased after Hiroto. “Stop it, you little devil!” he shouted.

“Pon asked it first!” Shou smirked when he heard Tora yelled even more.

Frowning, Saga also got up and helped Tora to chase Shou. The faster they caught the playboy, the faster this nonsense would stop. He knew Shou wouldn’t really kiss the other boy anyway.

Nao didn’t move from his spot on the floor as he looked at his running friends. He sighed. It always ended up like this. He wished his friends would be more mature like him.

“Gah, don’t step on my Justice Gundam!” Nao shouted and hurriedly protected his precious toy when his friends almost ran over some parts.
