Osaka Castle is one of the largest and most impressive buildings, its area reaches one square kilometer. It is a popular landmark in Osaka and has both historical and cultural significance as it played a leading role in the unification of the country in the 16th century.
The castle was built in the 16th century by one of the famous commanders and politicians of those times, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, on the site of an ancient temple. Hideyoshi always admired Azuchi Castle, which was a fortress for Oda Nobunga, and this was the reason for building his own impregnable fortress. Its main tower has five floors above ground and three below it. The walls of the building are covered with gold leaf to draw attention to the castle.
