And once again, do not make me choose between Lesley-Ann and Cynthia! I was heartbroken when news broke that Lesley-Ann had dropped the role, and it still seems a little mysterious, but also, she seems really friendly with the rest of the cast, so I don't think there's any ill will. And even though it's always a little jarring to see a new face, Cynthia has done an astonishing job, and totally made the role her own. It helps that she's playing Naevia after she had been through such a traumatic time in her life, that there's no way she could ever be the same girl. I am having so much fun exploring her backstory in my heroinebigbang, and it really is such an incredible life if you start thinking about how certain things might have happened. If she were born in the ludus, you had to assume that her parents or at least her mother had been a favored slave, but by the time we met her in Gods of the Arena, she made no mention of her. And her relationship to Lucretia is fascinating- she does act as a mother figure of sorts at times, but there was always this undertone of terror and hatred. And now, the wild warrior she's become? I can't wait to see where she goes. I would love to do a video of her life to Eyes Open.
