Anyway, here's a little Fannish Discussion, even though it's the middle of the week. Today kicked my ASS and I need it.

So today, whilst chatting with my darling duchessofavalon, we had a little moment of fannish disagreement. While she doesn't mind reading/knowing spoilers, she feels she gets the biggest fannish kick out of ( Read more... )

I love to watch live, but if I already know the big thing, sometimes I'll kinda sit on it for awhile, and see what everyone thinks about it. I'm just weird like that, I guess. I'll watch live if I don't know a thing, but if I already know, I'm more than content to kinda marinate in it for a bit.

I mean, this is definitely a question of scale for me. For stuff that I just casually watch, where there's no real investment for me, I don't mind being spoiled. Or for things like How I Met Your Mother where it's all mostly light-hearted and the spoiler is like, Lily and Robin go purse shopping.

But for Gossip Girl? Or True Blood? I will beat you with a SOCK if you tell me!

I feel like neither of those options is really me? I prefer to watch live because if I don't I tend to put it off because I will generally read recaps/my flist the next day. But I don't spoil myself beforehand, or least almost never.

I'm not sure if what I said made any sense.

I'm not sure this post made any sense, for that matter...

I've just sort of remembered this year, that when I was younger (i.e. before Spoilers Were A Thing To Be Reckoned With), I enjoyed tv so much better, and the thing that I think is the greatest example of it is Clink!Boom!. Today, we would have known about it months in advance, and I doubt anyone would have ruffled a feather or cared.

I only picked the last one because the first two don't really apply. :P I prefer watching live specifically so I don't find out the Big Thing before it happens. If I'm time-shifting then I feel like it's fair game for others to talk about, and the onus is on me to stay away from fan-related spaces/conversations if I don't want to know.

That said, I usually don't mind spoilers, although I won't go looking for them. With most of the shows I watch, I'm more interested in how things play out than what the particular plot points are. My only exception is shows like Ringer, where the fun for me is all in the "Did that really just happen?" WTF type moments where I really would rather be surprised.

I picked the second option, but will qualify it with there are some shows that I don't care if I'm spoiled for and others that I want to know nothing beforehand. I still usually wait to watch. I have so many shows that I DVR and I rarely watch them when they're actually on.

I prefer to watch live and not be spoiled!
