Okay, so random question...Do you guys feel like this format is necessary any time any type of fic is posted?

Summary:Like, does that little format help alert you that fic is being posted when you're scrolling by your f-list? I always feel like it's false advertising if I'm just posting a drabble (as I am about to ( Read more... )

I think a drabble should have Drabble written in the title of the post. That helps me.

When I'm posting an actual fic (which I think of as over 1k words), my subject is always FIC - Fandom (Characters, 1/?). But I kind of like using whatever song I happen to be listening to at the time as a subject line, and I feel like that basic fic one looks very clinical. But I do always do it, because I'm kind of a baby when I feel like nobody sees my fic. :/

Definitely it's a visual cue. If I'm posting them in bulk in my fic journal, I will sometimes skip that step, but it's a fic journal, I figure people know what they're getting into.

My general rule of thumb is under 500 words is a drabble, 500-100 would be a ficlet, and anything over 1000 is actual fic.

Haha, yeah it seems to be everyone's opinion (I'm always the cheese standing alone!)

True. I've thought about getting a fic journal, but oy...I would not look forward to archiving everything over there.

I prefer a header like that whenever a story is posted. Personally because of my OCD but also because that is standard and required in most comms so I don't see much sense in skipping it. Plus it does alert the person scrolling through their flist that there is fic.

A true drabble means 100 words. That's the true definition of it. I've seen it top out at 300 words. Anything between 300 - 1000 is a ficlet, and anything above that is a plain old fic. Anyone calling 4000 words a drabble needs to brush up on the meanings of the words their using.

I do always, always use a header for fic, but for a little drabble, eh...I just feel like I'm falsely advertising. But it seems to be the consensus that it's helpful, so I think I will start using it more.

Well, you know I have LJ OCD, so I need a header and a separate post for my fic. I also need to have corresponding tags... but we won't get into that. you already know how crazy I am.

A drabble is, like Slybrunette said, tenchincaly 100 words. I'd consider anything below 300 one, but anything above 1000 is definitely an actual fic.

Hi! I've been really 'messy' in my LJ lately, and have noticed that I haven't been tagging stuff properly...when I did my round-up at the end of 2010, I *know* I missed stuff and in some cases, totally lost stuff at commentathons and whatnot, but c'est la vie. I live and learn, I guess.

I wish I could hire an LJ maid...(Now who's crazy?)

For me, I think it stems from the fact that LJ, originally, was a place for me to post my fic and nothing else and I like it to be ordered. Also, I love it when I go to an author's journal and I really like their stuff and all I have to do is click on their tags to find more stuff I think I'd like. I think that is where it really started - if, by chance, somebody wanted to read more of stuff (how pompous do I sound?) I wanted them to be able to find it right away. Is that weird? I think it is.

Also, I would totally do that for you. Not going to lie. I'm a part of a community that was about to run out of space for their tags (you can only have so much, I guess) and needed to re-organize. Their system was terribly redundant and I was going to tell them that I would do it. No joke.

I LOVE YOUR ICON!

Thanks! hope27 made it, in that last big batch she did.

Haha, I wouldn't ask you to 'clean my room' for me. I ask you for enough favors!

I do post a "header" like that usually just because on certain communities that I post my drabbles to require them and I just transfer it over.

But I do see how posting all the information seems like a big lead in for only a few hundred words. Either way, I'm always excited to see the words "fic" or "drabble" by your name! ;)
