More Lilly Fic!

There's something about writing Lilly that's totally enjoyable. I feel very comfortable 'in her head', which I'm not sure what that says about me...

Anywho!

RATING: pg-13 (a few bad words)

SUMMARY: Lilly took care of her own. If she had a little fun doing so, all the better.

There was something awfully endearing about watching Veronica flirt. Endearing, because more than half the time, she didn’t even know she was doing it. But there was something about the way she chewed her bottom lip, that would turn Duncan into a puddle at her feet. One tilt of her head, and he was a goner.

And she didn’t even know it.

Didn’t know that that little ‘head tilt’ could charm more than just Lilly’s baby brother, too.

Or so Lilly noticed watching her friend across the room at study hall, trying to help Weevil Navarro with his English homework. They’d been assigned as study partners- purely by luck of the alphabet- but from what Lilly could see, Veronica was studying Shakespeare, and Navarro was studying Veronica.

She was reciting- Oh Christ, ‘Romeo & Juliet’ for crying out loud- that ridiculous passage where Juliet simpered and hemmed and hawed before their first kiss. Totally sounds like Veronica. And Navarro was just staring intently down at her. Lilly knew Veronica was aware of his perusal because her cheeks and the tips of her ears were as freshly pink as her Gap tee shirt. “’Then have my lips the sin that they have took…’” Veronica looked up into Navarro’s soulful brown eyes- damn, is a fifteen-year-old supposed to have eyes like that?- and quickly looked back down. “Um, it’s your turn.”

A slow, seductive- way, way too seductive for a sophomore- smile spread across Navarro’s face. “It sounds pretty good from where I’m sitting. You sure you don’t want to keep going?”

Veronica’s whole face was pink at this point, but she looked up at Navarro and angled her head to the left. God, don’t head-tilt at him, Veronica! “But, um…” more chewing on her bottom lip, which was already swollen and tender and pink- just like the rest of her. You’re gonna get in trouble, little girl. “It’s the boy’s part.”

Navarro just chuckled, low and raspy. “Your call. If you say so, mami.”

Lilly didn’t care that she was totally eavesdropping. Weevil Navarro, PCHer bad boy, had designs on her best friend- and more importantly, her baby brother’s girl. And Lilly wasn’t quite so sure that he would be unsuccessful.

Lilly didn’t believe in fidelity. It didn’t last- her parents were a testimony to that. And it didn’t really work- she and Logan were happiest when they both had something on the side. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

But Veronica and Duncan were different. Lilly had to admit, her heart melted a little at their sweetness. Veronica’s halo damn near shone under Duncan’s glorified light. They sort of made Lilly want to believe in true love…But only sort of. In reality, Lilly Kane knew the score and knew better. But Veronica and Duncan’s particular brand of devotion and adoration was the stuff of Freddie Prinze, Jr. movies. Somehow, in this case, happily ever after felt possible and justified.

But, God, even Princess V was human. And every good girl had their time to fall for the bad boy. Happens to the best of us- not that I would know anything about being a good girl. She knew her sweet, innocent friend would never consciously hurt her baby brother, but Lilly still worried about him. No one outside of their family knew how keenly, how deeply Duncan felt pain.

The bell rang to signal the end of the period, and Lilly gathered her books in her arm, carefully watching the drastically mismatched pair.

“So, we’ll work on it tomorrow, I guess,” Veronica stammered. Once again, she tilted her goddamn head.

Navarro’s eyes flashed like lightning. “Whatever you say, mami. I’m here when you want me.”

Veronica turned quickly and ran out of the room, not even glancing at Lilly on the way out. Her face was practically fuschia at this point.

Lilly pursed her lips and caught Navarro’s eye from across the room. He winked at her. Cocky little bastard, she thought, with a smidge of admiration.

Logan droned on and on about the party he was throwing the next weekend, and the entire 09er table was enraptured in his soliloquy. Everyone except for Veronica, Duncan, and Lilly. Veronica and Duncan were wrapped up in each other, and Lilly was wrapped up in watching them. Really studying them.

They leaned close together, dark head against fair, whispering a quiet conversation that no one else could hear. Veronica’s eyes were shining again.

Lilly sat back, and leaned into Logan, more for comfort than affection. She had nothing to worry about. Veronica would never look at another boy like that- it just didn’t happen twice in a lifetime. She smiled. Their kids would have the most ridiculously pretty eyes.

“Hey, keep walking, cholo,” Logan stopped his story just long enough to taunt Weevil Navarro and a few other PCHer’s as they sauntered past. Navarro didn’t even dignify him with a response, but looked down at Veronica, with an expression that could only be called…lustful. Shamelessly lustful. Veronica blushed again. Christ, she’s like the Incredible Hulk…The pink version. Lilly glanced at her brother.

“Are you okay? Is he bothering you?” Duncan asked, as Navarro walked away.

“Oh no, I’m fine, don’t worry about me,” Veronica said, quickly. Too quickly.

Lilly sighed. It was time to be big sister.

Lilly ignored the low whistles as she strolled down the beach through the pack of teenaged boys in leather. God, who wants to wear all that black in Southern California? Her eyes were on her target, and he was staring back. Not one hint of an inferiority complex with this guy.

“Are you lost, sweetie?” Somehow, that endearment sounded more like an insult coming out of Navarro’s lips, especially after hearing the way he purred mami at Veronica.

“Nope.” Lilly flopped down on the sand next to him. “Found exactly what I’m looking for.”

Navarro gave a subtle head nod- a head nod, that’s like a tilt, maybe they have something in common after all- and his boys scattered, some heading up the beach to their bikes, some to the boardwalk to partake in the numerous activities offered. Probably like scaring tourists.

Navarro turned back to his new company. “What can I do you for, Miz Kane?”

Lilly didn’t answer, just tilted her head her head in her best Veronica impression. She figured one white girl was as good as any other to a barrio boy. And wasn’t Jake Kane’s daughter the ultimate prize?

He wasn’t falling for it. “Shit, girl, if you want something, you’re gonna have to just say it-“ But he was cut off when Lilly just grabbed him and kissed him. He was surprised for a second, unresponsive, but he caught on quick, and he gave as good as he got.

Lilly tugged the straps on her tank top down, and he took the lead.

A distraction. That’s all she was to him. Not Pretty-in-Pink Veronica, but she would have to do. And it wasn’t as if Weevil Navarro was the love of her life, but if this is what it took to keep her brother happy- and safe- by God, this is what she would do.

Lilly moaned as Navarro’s tongue found the valley between her breasts. He was certainly different than Logan and Dick and Casey Gant and all the other 09er boys she dallied with- more primal, more forceful, and somehow far more intense.

There are definitely worse ways I could spend my time, Lilly mused before she lost all ability to form any rational thought at all.
