I'm not sure how many of you have read this, but it was new to me so I'm going to post it. On Yoko's website she posted a short story type thing written by John in 1978, about what he and Yoko went through with him leaving the Beatles, their problems with drugs, and the immigration service, ect... It's basically stuff we probably all know already ( Read more... )

I am not sure what I should think about that...this does not sound like 78. He is still angry and still tries to convince himself that he disbanded the group...which we all know he never did officially. It was Paul who announced that he will leave AFTER John said that in private. And with all the other stuff in this...why does he leave out his long episode where he left his oh so beautiful intelligent dream-wife.

Sorry, this is not one of his best writings, sometimes I even wonder if it really is all his. Maybe Yoko finished it to show the world how lovely their marriage was?

Yeah, I also was wondering why he left out the Lost Weekend. Like you said, I was thinking maybe Yoko changed some of it. After all, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be caught dead posting something on her website that mentioned some of the flaws of her and John's marriage, especially if John was the one to point it out.

I am glad that I am not the only one who thought this....and you are right about her intention. This again makes John look like the wonderful nice husband who changed his life for her, who disbanded (haha) the group for her (after all it was his first marriage he says)
And John does not know which colour Cyn's hair naturally was?? I cannot believe that.

That threw me too, although I thought she was naturally blond so who knows? But still, he was married to the women. He could have at least known what color her hair naturally was. Also, did you notice the part where he says stuff about Cyn's nose job? Didn't she get that a few years before their divorce? That one confused me a little.

I also wanted to point this out, the part where he says something about the "Two Virgins" cover and how they were slightly overweight or something of that sort. Both of them are nowhere near fat in that picture, don't want to point fingers here but I'm assuming Yoko put that in his head also since she was also the one to get him on the macrobiotic shit.

I have the book. It's rather disjointed, it's not like "In His Own Write" or "Spaniard" which has self-contained poems. It doesn't seem like they bothered with editors, like they just printed those casual musings verbatim. :/

And I agree with you guys. I really wish there was a balanced and insightful biography on John. The closest I've found was May's book, which gave a whole different perspective on "Johnandyoko" and John's emotional state, both very troubling.

Yet most biographers almost completely dismiss her memoirs and lean towards Yoko's version. They also spend too much time on John's early life and Hamburg and brush over the mid-sixties. Then they gloss over the details of John and Yoko's budding acquaintance, allot only a short chapter to the Lost Weekend, and don't say anything critical about his years as a homemaker (am I expected to believe he was totally happy?!?), and finally, they don't write anything about his obvious eating disorders. >:(

I totally agree...I do not believe that he was happy at the time he was a houseman....how can he, he was a musician after all. And being stuck in a house with a crying wee-baby is not what he liked. I do not believe that "I am a happy houseman now" story...no way...besides, he handed over nearly every job to the woman who had to bring up Sean...I am sure whenever it became stressful (getting up in the nights, changing his nappy, feeding him, helping him through getting his teeth....) John was faaaaar away, if not his body than at least his mind, and the nanny had to take over ( ... )

I think a good biography would talk about his macrobiotic diet, his body image issues and the extent of his eating disorder. It was a serious problem, and there's a lot to be discussed about the hows and whys. In the biographies that I've read, 1980 was portrayed like the happiest year in John's life. Yes he had a lovely son and he loved returning to the studio, but what about his health problems? I'd think a comprehensive biography would cover that. :/

Yes, he really looked unhealthy.
I'd think a comprehensive biography would cover that. :/
I think it should cover it, yes, I just think that Yoko has her hands on that...whenever a bio is written, she tries to get involved I think and she would not allow to let the truth be put down in a book...the truth everyone can see anyway.

Oh yes, and according to a recent interview I read, Yoko's planning to write her own autobiography.
That'll be interesting....

That wasn't an interview, she answered two questions on her twitter and some idiot put them together, making up the story. She will not write an autobiography (phew!) because she has no time at all. She already regrets having answered these two questions...

really? Oh good. tbh I read it in a news article, I thought it was quoting an interview.

VERY interesting read! Thanks for sharing!

I don't buy the beginning though...where he had "visions" about what his soulmate would look like? I mean, even Hudini can't predict that stuff.

And I never knew Cyn had a nose job!

The fact is,

if his life with Yoko was as happy and perfect as he supposedly said here, the "Lost Weekend" wouldn't even happen.
