Days 31 and 32 Birmingham (Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 April)

Apr 20, 2012 06:48

I coughed. I blew my nose. I watched the rain. My friend and I talked.

Thursday (my last full day here) I washed and dried my clothes, to have clean clothing for Manchester.

I am very tired of this cold. Now I am getting a sore throat, and am wondering how much longer this will afflict me.

commiserations. I can definitely attest to how annoying that is. *sympathy pats*

koff. Thanks! koff. Feeling a bit better today, though, possibly just because I don't have to go anywhere except down to breakfast.

My brother suggests a mask for planes (I'd add trains and maybe even public transport). Have you tried that? Do you think it makes any difference?

I've tried it but it's uncomfortable and doesn't seem to help. The one thing I've noticed that helps is using a saline nasal spray to "rinse" out the sinuses. Viruses proliferate at the nostril openings. Per my dr it really helps lower the body's viral load to rinse and blow (or at a minimum to simply vigorously blow) after spending an extended period of time in an enclosed space with a lot of people. If you, like me, get very dry on a plane, take some Mucinex or generic guaifenesin beforehand. It helps keep the sinus/lungs lubricated so they function better.

Rinsing also helps during blooming season to help cut the level of pollens.

Thanks, I'll look into the saline nasal spray at Boots the Chemist before I move on from here.

Easier to manage than a mask, for sure!
