wtf?

I just read about someone who had an iron reading of 6.7 being admitted into hospital to bring it back up - wtf? I've had readings of 4 before  (I don't remember if I've ever had a reading in double digits) and all they say is to take iron tablets - do NZers take things more casually than the US?

Most countries are not as inclined hospitalisation as the malpractice happy insurance based American market. Hospital admission is for acute situations. In your iron levels were dropping suddenly, associated with other dropping suddenly danger signs, that might get you admitted.
That said about 20% of N.Z. Women have blood iron readings below 12, and should probably be supplementing their iron intake.

Yeah, I was just about to say that NZ treats a lot of health stuff more casually than America does because we don't have a health system that's dedicated to selling expensive tests and treatments which your insurance company can then deny you coverage for, even if you paid for it.

When I had the Weasel, she was blood typed at birth for Rh factor because I'm negative and DH is positive. She was negative so I didn't have any treatment for it. The Americans I told about it shrieked that my doctors were "negligent" and "risking my life" by not giving me anti-D the SECOND we figured out what was going on with Rh factor. I don't know if you've noticed, but everybody's just fine.
