I'd add to the suggestion of waffle day: a waffle iron is easier/safer to operate than a frying pan; and a waffle is easier to share and/or eat while standing up.

I definitely agree with regards to historical rather than serious analysis. We'd want this to be interesting to a broader audience than just people with philosophy degrees.
