My computer has stopped working completely - when I turn it on it just sits there making a noise like a chainsaw, and I don't dare leave it on for too long just in case it explodes or something. So I've just spent an hour printing out all my notes at uni. I probably won't be online much for the next week, since I won't have time to get my computer

Your fan's broken/clogged- take it down to the computer store and get it replaced. Won't take much more then $50 and an hour to get fixed!

Thanks for the offer, I think opening it up would void the warranty though - at the moment I can still get any broken parts replaced for free.
