One of my favourite sites just released this.

It's a story on an interesting study into how groups of people move.

I'm with this. I've noticed it quite consistently as on the occasions I do go places, I usually head there (or in any direction) with a purpose, and usually see the crowd forming behind me.

Some of my classmates back in school also noticed this, so between us we joked about having "trendsetting" behavior.

I've discovered it with a few friends of mine. We'll start wlaking somewhere, then all stop, unsure where we're going.
With us, it's usually a case of A follwoing B, B following C and C following A. And example, I guess, of when the flock mentality fails.

I rarely pay attention to who I'm following or who's following me, but there are times where "find someone who looks informed and follow them" has served me extremely well professionally. Of course, that's a concious choice to flock.

I just go where I want. I tend to get annoyed by groups as they are often standing in my way or slowing me down.

Heh, I have no problem wandering with the flock if it gets me where I want to go..or at least fails to disrupt my life at all.
