I've found this to be the case in virtually all criticism for every genre of everything. I've basically stopped reading it altogether, not even looking at metascores like Rottentomatoes for movies or Metacritic for video games.

I haven't listened to the new album but I really dug quite a few of the tracks on Castaways and Cutouts as well as The Crane Wife. The only reason they were on my radar is because of the hometown connection (and if anything that kept me from checking it out earlier since Tarkio was alt country).

The most egregious of review hubris has to be Rolling Stone though.

Looking through my iTunes I remembered their EP "The Tain" which has a 5 part track that is 18+ minutes long(!), good stuff.

Ditto this: I still haven't listened to the new one. My problem is I did one of those intense couple months of All-Decemberists, All-The-Time, & burned myself out.
