Everything came down to the χ² (chi-square) analysis of the expected ratios of mutant flies to the observed ratios. It's basically a square of the observed-minus-expected ratios which is then divided by the expected ratios to see how close the results are to the hypothesis and whether or not said hypothesis is accepted (or, rather, not rejected.
