And we're off!! (early too which is generally not the case for me).

Please make sure you've read the RULES & GUIDLINES thoroughly before participating. If you have any questions or queries please direct them to the F.A.Q. post and do not post them here (this entry is purely for the prompts and icon responses). I have also included a (large) list ( Read more... )

Helen Magnus with historic women (or men, but I prefer her with famous ladies :D), sepia-toned, old photographs, etc. ETA: Because someone asked... women like Amelia Earhart, Dorothy Parker... mainly women from 1900 to present-day. :D

OK, I've got something I won't be entirely embarrassed to admit I made after you found the gorgeous Helen caps. Not enough negative space but I thought you'd prefer that the characters are larger. If you want more negative space, let me know and I'll resize. I'm punting on Dorothy Parker, for now, which is sad because I adore her wit. The woman seemingly sat for very few portraits. :| Anyhow, here are two variants:

While I still think the first one you made was fine, this one is superior! Thank you so much for taking the time to make it something you liked as well. :D It helps that Helen in her fedora is one of my favorite Helen-outfits, but it all works so, so well. Thank you so much! It's exactly what I wanted!

Doesn't mean I'll give up hope on a future Dorothy Parker icon. ;-D I wrote a Helen/Amelia fic, and now I have this icon. Maybe I need to write a story to get the Dorothy icon. ~g~

You were too kind to the original. I think this one blends better, as in it does, and the pattern use adds interest to the composition in the way a flat background didn't. This one has a more uniform source of light rather than dueling sources. And hey, there's no point in trying if not going to do my best for you, you know?

Helen looks really hot in those caps. I have one really small photo of Dorothy that was nice. If I could find a larger version, I'd totally try to make the other icon. And yes, fic just might be the required element. :)

Well, whenever someone makes me something, I can't complain about the quality. Especially when it's something I can't do myself! I imagine the version I would have made and judge the finished product against that. So... trust me. The first one was FINE. ;-D

I won't hold you to the Dorothy icon! I could probably write a Dorothy/Helen story without too much trouble. There was an interview with Amanda where she was asked who she wanted to meet in history and she said immediately: "Well, obviously Dorothy Parker, um... Oh. I guess that's my answer." :D

I get the whole beggars can't be choosers vibe but I knew that I could do better by your request. Just because it was hard was no excuse to do half the job. Well, it has joined my large pile of "I should icon..." which means it's probably dead if you don't remind me because I'm not so good with the To Do Lists. But like I said, it's a challenge. I want to improve = Challenges are Good. :) I'm glad this'll do for now.

Amanda is adorable.

*sigh* So I was just putting together a shiny, "look what I made for iconfest!" post and realized that the icon I gave you was not the sharpened version. I think Helen's a little soft-focus. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Your choice what to use but here's the sharpened version of the icon you chose:
