Q?

Does anyone else find it rather strange that out of the many kinks and perverse ideas that come from the kink memes and kinky people everywhere, it's the thought of adultery that really squicks me out?

Frankly, I'm on the same page here. And I don't count polyamory as adultery, because it is meant to be a fully honest situation where all people know and are fine with who screws whom.

It's when people hide their relations and lie about things that I get grossed out.

Hmm, I wouldn't say im grossed out when people hide/lie about stuff. More annoyed/angry/grr..

I don't think it's all that strange. There's no explaining where one's kinks come from sometimes, and the same is probably true of squicks.

It's been interesting reading some of the responses above, because the kinks I often look for in fics have almost nothing to do with how I feel about those situations in real life. My fic kinks tend towards some pretty dark dysfunctional stuff (including, yes, betrayal of all sorts, not just adultery), whereas I can't bear the thought of those things happening to anyone in real life. So I can't really back-trace my reactions that way.

Yes.

Wait, how do you define adultery?

Primarily cheating while in an established relationship.

Hmm, right. Cheating implies no-foreknowledge/pre-cleared of the cheated. Or something.

Not at all. Most kink/fetish is just physical sensation or fantasy, but adultery is emotional harm and breach of trust.
