A life of hardships.

Sometimes when my kids complain about things, I remind them of the hardships I suffered as a child. I'm not talking about those troubles that we all suffered: no DVR, no handheld electronics, no Google. I'm talking about those things that everyone else had ( Read more... )

We had a "party line" phone until I was like nine.

Omigod. I was dying for a party line. Instead, I had to go all the way up to my cousins to listen in on Miss Ditha Mackey.

I'm with your dad on frenetic TV. It gives me the jangles now to watch it, and my brain is fully developed (so I'm told). I would have had to smuggle in Q-tips, though.

I never had my own room.

I grew up with periods of no running water and indoor plumbing. Cry me a river.
