My new shoes

Sep 10, 2006 09:12

i just ordered a new pair of shoes from a New York store called Moo Shoes that only sells vegan (i.e. non-leather) footwear and other apparel items. My shoes will be delivered by UPS in a few days.

The shoes look like black Converse hi-tops, but they're not. Instead they're union-made No Sweat black hi-tops.

When I first met Ben he had a pair of those in pink :)

Oh and 40-something dollars is about standard for guys/unisex shoes nowadays.

those shoes were pretty much my favorite shoes. I wore them till the sole literally was no longer attached to the rest of the shoe.

Did I misread that, or did that say that these workers get the equivalent of $125 a month? Hardly sounds like something to boast about, unless the cost of living in Indonesia is way, way, way down there.

$125.00 a month may not be much by American standards, but it is probably a lot by Indonesian/Asian/Third World standards and is probably a lot more than the workers in China get paid to assemble Converse All-Stars for Nike.

Of course, it would be great if the workers got more than $125.00/mo.

i assume that the cost of living is lower there. i just read an article in yesterday's Sentinel about how used American school buses are shipped to the Congo where they're a popular form of public transportation. It costs .30 cents to ride one of them vs. $1.50-$2.00 for Lynx.

Damnit. I just bought a new pair of converses about two weeks ago on the basis of their being non-leather and therefore better than the boots I was going to get. Well next time I'll know better I guess.

Apparently, there's only one retailer in Florida carrying NoSweat shoes and other NoSweat apparel items. That business is located in Edgewater, which is near New Smyrna Beach. Otherwise you have to order them through NoSweat or through another on-line retailer like Moo Shoes.

Dirty workerist, thinking about those dirty workers who only exploit the planet by trying to feed themselves by working somewhere.

Just don't let CrimeThInc know, OK? They probably would suggest that the workers in Indonesia should all buy copies of Evasion and learn to just shoplift everything they need.
