Had lunch with my old boss who is now my  "Relationship Leader."  I told her about my rating.  She said that with the current restructure they're doing, if you were rated "Does Not Meet Expectations," as I was, you have 99.9% chance of not being matched to a role.  YES ( Read more... )

I don't think I've ever *hoped* for somebody to be laid off before, but there's a first time for everything!

I've gotta ask. Did the boss tell you this information, thinking it would be "bad news" for you? Because that's gotta be a pretty awkward lunch...

Boss: So, it looks like, with your ratings, you might get laid off.
Mich: Laid off?
Boss: Yes, I'm so sorry. I know this sucks...
Mich: Are you kidding me?! BEST NEWS EVER!
Boss: Huh?

It was my old boss Nancy, not my current boss. She was sad to tell me that it was unlikely I'd get matched. My response was "yes!" with a clenched fist moving in a downward motion. She seemed a bit worried for me as most people are but I told her at the end of lunch, "Thank you for the twistedly good news." She understands where I'm coming from. She confided that a year ago she was pissed about her own role and had kinda hoped to be given a severance package as well. Through a bunch of circumstances they did offer her one but it was the standard package, not the enhanced with extra weeks and she turned it down. It would have been the third time she'd left the company.

I'm trying to prepare myself for the official news on Monday. How to hide my excitement? Especially when I'll need to contest the amount of weeks they're going to give me if they only want to recognize 5 years of service (my 6th anniversary would have been a month later on 1/5). Can't look too excited and then negotiate more money - that wouldn't play well. And, yes, people have actually gone to HR and negotiated more money than originally offered in their severance package.
