I've just spent 3 hours setting up a wireless router. For the third fucking time!! This has been the longest it's taken me to install, by far, and the only time I've had to actually call my ISP for help (which they couldn't provide, although they did get my Internet working again ( Read more... )

I would have asked if I could have connected to the Internet to begin with, believe me! I figured someone on my flist would know, but...the routers were being all blocky.

Oh, lovely! Computer do make us suffer, and if they don't, then all the add-ons do. I installed the software for my digital camera on my laptop (of course, the manual warned that if I didn't, the goblins would attack me in my sleep and choke me with my innards), which made it freeze. Then every time I turned on my pc it froze and wouldn't do anything until I used the task manager to deactivate whatever Kodak shit was running. Eventually I just removed the whole thing. Now I copy the photos from the camera manually and if they need tweaking, I use Photoshop or Paint (yeah, I know. Prehistoric, but userfriendly).

I don't have any good insults, I'm afraid. Can't you give your pc the evil eye when the webcam is on? Or threaten to disconnect it from its friends the printer and the scanner, and to tell his girlfriend next door that he's been doing the nasty with the microwave.

This is what happened after I installed all the stuff the ISP gave me that they said I absolutely HAD to have to use the internet. They LIED!!! And I couldn't figure out how to get to safe mode to access my startup files, either, for the longest time, which was fun, since XP doesn't make it ridiculously obvious the way Windows 98 did. Eventually I got on, turned off everything that I installed, and finally could use my computer again. And, since this all happened the morning AFTER I made this post, I'm convinced it was retaliation for threatening the computer - now I"m afraid of what it will do if I threaten it again. Help!

I will retain that info for when I buy a wireless router at some point in the future.
