Only the rich can waste and save the world for the rest of us peons

In uber-wealthy Bozeman, Montana, auto erotics ride in fucked up style. I took way too many pictures.

Some drive for impracticality when out of their lead-burning vintage Porsche 356's.
Check out the available rear wheel traction! Must be fun in snow without the lead weights in back.

A friend of mine took a pic of one of those ZENN's outside NYC the other day. That was the first I'd heard of them. As for Smart cars, I've seen one parked on William between State & Maynard twice now, regular plates. I'm so cynical I can't help but wonder if it's product placement and not someone's actual daily driver.

I bet a lot of former DCX people had a line on early Smarts and live near AA.

The ZENN is about the same size, but uglier in person. And the product stickers didn;t help. Remember when PT Cruisers, New Beetles, and xB's were product placements?

Smarts are almost too common in Europe now - enough to make it in car chase scenes in Tom Hanks movies.

Any Smarts you see in the States are either manufacturer's vehicles or greymarket (through a greymarket dealer or self-imported).

The US versions are going to have pure gas engines (rather than the gas/diesel dual-fuel engines in Europe and Canada) and different transmissions. Mercedes won't support greymarket Smarts, so those owners not only paid an outrageous premium just to be a year ahead of everybody else, they're also going to be importing their own fan belts and mufflers.

I've seen what looked to be US-spec ones with Manufacturers plates all over CA and MI in the last month. Prepared to be underwhelmed. But they can move, slowly.

Canadian grey-market Smarties might not be too bad for a Michigander to go South for a belt. They may have jumped the gun, but Smart were going to scrap the idea of US versions as late as a year ago.

I might actually be driving one in Croatia in a few weeks, diesel no doubt.
