I watched the entire thing. Honestly, I recommend watching the entire thing, because the blond chick at the end is seriously hilarious. But oi. So glad I'm nowhere near this fandom. I'd be dying.
Yeah I flip back and forth (at like 543728956473263492 frames per second) between horrified and entertained. But in the end, I think horrified wins. However, dude WHAT IF THIS WERE MY FANFICTION? This is what I'm trying to say here. I mean, it's not good fanfic, clearly, but geez. Someone wrote that! I'm having a moment.
I agree! Sex scenes are the hardest damn things to write (which is why I avoid writing them, mostly) and I reckon you could take pieces of most fic and read them out of context for bile-inducing results. These don't sound good, but so what?
I think my problem with this is that it's mean-spirited. They would have to know that the devoted fans who wrote this would be gutted to be mocked in this fashion. There's a power imbalance that makes me uncomfortable. So - well paid, well-known actors getting to pour shit on the work of people who probably don't have a tenth of what they do but who find some pleasure in writing these stories? What is their point? Yeah, good on you, smirk away. You've probably just made some poor bastards bloody miserable. Nice one.
Arseholes. Never watched this show, and now never will.
I think that there's a whole lot of respected and published fiction that, if read out loud in the right tone of voice, would sound absolutely ridiculous.
There's a power imbalance that makes me uncomfortable.
But, YES THIS. It makes me super uncomfortable, too. I have an entire riff on the subject, and I can feel it gradually forming in my brain, but it's not quite there yet. In any case, I will say that most likely, the actors weren't the ones who thought this up. So although I disagree with what's going on here, I don't put all the blame on them. Mostly a lame publicity stunt. I think the entire thing is at such a weird stage. It's starting to make me look so fondly back on the good old days when fanfic was this hilariously closeted thing and actors had no idea it even existed.
Wait, you don't put up fic on the off chance that the actors will wind up reading it on youtube? Pft, you just prompt everybody ELSE so they can die of shame if the actors read their fic on youtube:P
I don't put up fic because I keep it to myself. I follow the general rule of: my baby cousins will probably find this eventually. Anything I would be embarrassed for them to find, I should probably just keep things to myself.
And yes. I am, at my core, a shit disturbing enabler.
