Music. 'Cause I feel like it.

Aug 12, 2012 10:54

We got back from the beach last night and I'm surrounded by piles of laundry and bored, grumpy kids. Today is about getting back into the routine in ALL THE WAY, including an epic trip to the gym and huge grocery shopping. Exciting shit, man! So, in the interest of distraction, I bring to you this music poll, courtesy of this nifty NPR article I Read more... )

Ok, so My Love Song choice is actually a breakup song. This was a difficult poll. I've said it before, but most of my candidates for Personal Theme Song seem either self-pitying or self-aggrandizing.

I STILL haven't seen Political Animals.

OMG M, it's so you to pick a breakup song as your love song. Perfect:)

Does The Police take you back to your childhood because it's what you listened to or because of your parents? All my childhood songs were inflicted on me by my parents, including the entire Lynn Anderson compendium. *shudders*

I don't know "Sprawl II!" I'll have to listen so I know your theme song. I'm trying to decide if mine is self-aggrandizing. More probably just emo, lol.

ALSO. I love your funeral song. I remember dancing to that right before I had to go give this huge presentation sophomore year. I was head over heels in love with the prof, and it felt SO IMPORTANT.

Aw, ICON.

My parents listened to nothing but Classical and Folk! The very first Rock Concert I went to was The Police. A Flock of Seagulls opened for them. Ah, the 80s!

I don't live in the Suburbs, but this song just taps into...something. Arcade Fire is amazing.

Interesting choice for your funeral song. I love that Van Morrison song too.

I was raised on Elvis, Streisand, Neil Diamond, The Carpenters, Loretta Lynn, Lynn Anderson, and Buck Owens. Much of it was terrifying, although I do still adore the first three I mentioned. Streisand never ceases to amaze me with what she can do.

My college roommate adored The Police. I used to fall asleep to Sting (not by my own choice;). It's the coolest that you saw The Police in concert! But Flock of Seagulls, wow. Their hair!

SO. I need new icons, but this is one instance in which I think the one I am using is appropriate for the post. PRINCE, man.

Ahahaha. Most of the music on my list wasn't even produced during the time I've been alive.

Truth: I almost picked Alseep At Last, for the love song one. But that's also in my head as a totally Jack/Renee song.

I LOVE YOUR ANSWERS, especially "Day is Done". And what is "Nobody"? Would I know it if I heard it?

PRINCE. That icon is perfect. A lot of Prince songs get me dancing. Of course a lot of Prince songs are also ridiculously inappropriate to play around children. I always have to remember to skip "Gett Off" (23 positions in a one-night stand) and "Sexy MF" when the kids are home.

You are definitely an outlier in terms of your age, no doubt! But "Old Time Rock and Roll" ftw. Also I'm so laughing at your love song answers. Nobody said it had to be a wedding song! Psh. I know you like love songs, like Asleep At Last. Which GAH. Yes. Love. I'm still so entirely obsessed with "Will You Catch Me Then" btw. Just so you know. It's vidded itself in my brain, along with fifty kathousand other songs.

DAY IS DONE. I adore that song so much, and my joy at having heard it live knows no bounds.

I doubt you would know "Nobody." It's a spectacularly terrible song that came out when I was something like ten. My very first 45. God, it's absolutely the worst, and having to list it as my first ever purchased song is so embarrassing. But whatever. I'll ( ... )

I just had a really good time watching this:

Oh, the dancing! Oh, the theatrics! She still wants this boyfriend who is two-timing her? Oh, man.

DAY IS DONE. Oh man. I wanna listen to that right now. In fact, I will!

Oh dear god, that is the WORST. And yes, apparently when I was ten I thought it was awesome to like, try to keep your man with you with sex. The scariest part is that I can still recite every last word of this song. UGH. Ahahahahahaha.

Write me fic, man! That has to be better than watching this:P

i LOVED that article!!! and fully support said "research." did you hear the story from earlier this summer about the music you got from your parents' record collection? it was a rad one that got me thinking, too.

I did not in fact hear that story! Do you have a link? Also, you didn't even answer the poll questions, silly person. What are you trying to do, find someplace to live or something? :P

The fact that the hockey boys is your default is cracking me UP.

SORRY, I must not have refreshed and I didn't see your super cool answers.

A couple thoughts:

+++ I enjoyed the film Dangerous Minds unironically. I'm so ashamed of this, but I do so enjoy the Weird Al video in which Florence Henderson takes Michelle's Pfeiffer's place.
+++ OMG, "We Gotta Get Out of This Place!" In random info, one time they replaced the China Beach credits with that song (it usually ran over "Reflections") and I flipped my shit. Also, it's entirely adorbs to think of you dancing on your dad's feet.
+++ Is "No Children" seriously even a love song? *is skeptical*
+++ Major points for "Into the Mystic." Quality choice.

(it is actually NOT MY DEFAULT, i just CARE ENOUGH TO CHANGE IT EVERY SINGLE TIIIIIIME, what is my cardboard box life????)

I wish you knew how gleeful this makes me. I am just DYING. It's so much better than it being your default.

THIS POLL IS SO GREAT I LOVE IT SO MUCH. ♥ I especially love that Sexy Back was your answer for #2, hehe. Also, I'm not sure what the first song I ever bought was, but the first album I ever bought was Dark Side of the Moon.

Good luck with getting laundry and grocery shopping done, and getting back into the regular routine of things!

When I read the article, I knew I had to poll it! Because I'm truly curious to hear people's answers. I LOVE that the first album you bought was Dark Side of the Moon. You have amazing musical taste, seriously. I don't even know the song that you say is YOU. I'll have to listen to it!

Love Shack:) Oh man, the love I have for your '80s music love. That song was this ridiculously huge part of my college experience. I'm also laughing that music I listened to in college reminds you of your childhood;) But that makes sense.

"You Might Think" almost always winds up on any lovey mix I make, no doubt.

And thanks for the good progress wishes. I've actually gotten a ton done since I put this up, which is awesome. Few more loads and I'll be all over it. I hope you've had a wonderful weekend.
