These are apparently my last sketches of the year (barring a couple figure scribbles at the metro). Not too great, huh! :} The first is from last Friday, and is just a photo study. The other was drawn on Christmas Day.

I always find myself fascinated by iconography. It seems like an art with scads and scads of rules.

I love the two drawings you shared here and how amazingly diverse they are from one another. It looks like two completely different people did them. When I think that kind of diversity in one person's style is truly a mark of greatness. :)

Byzantine iconography is very stylised (and also fairly strict in its execution), and for that reason quite easy to learn! To some extent it is more craft than art. Maybe you could come one summer to Lemnos so my mum could teach you. ;)

Haha! I'll quote you, then! I also often have the impression of different people making different pictures (of my own), but it mostly is a 'WTF?' kind of thing. :}

Hope you had a good time on New Year! Here it was thankfully quiet. :)
