Sometimes, I get really discouraged with my fic writing. I still, for instance, haven't thought of some better way to lead up to the ending of the Rapunzel story, and the politics of part two are dragging me down. I just want to make everything work, to make it all make sense, to fill in all the holes and answer all the questions that I always have ( Read more... )

I feel like in these instances, looking around outside of yourself is actually thinning out your own experience.

You know the level of quality you respect in other authors, and you know what level of quality you are trying to acheive yourself. Wondering if you should water down that expectation isn't just settling in terms of the work itself, but I think it also waters down how you feel when creating it. The final product should be something you enjoy, regardless of if others would have enjoyed a slightly less perfect version.

There is such a thing as beating a dead horse, but you don't sound like that's what you're doing. You sound methodical and logical and exactly as someone should sound who is working out something important to them.

I guess what I'm saying is that at the end of the day, you should be asking yourself if you're happy with the work before you ever ask others.

I'm done rambling. LOVE!!

I would never post something that didn't make me happy, or that I felt wasn't up to snuff, I just wonder if I'm getting too caught up in 'errors' that aren't really problems and trying to make it absolutely perfect, when it just isn't going to ever be.

I got back into reading fan fiction this past year and I have an extremely hard time finding good stories to read anymore. As long as there are no plot holes or typos you're already miles ahead of, like, 95% of the stuff out there.

If it's not up to your standard though, work it a bit more and in the mean time send it to me so I don't have to read anymore crap from melodramatic teenagers. Also, I'm still a pretty good editor despite being surrounded by engineers the past 6 years...

Ok,seriously, why does LJ hate me? I had no idea these comments were here. I would love to send you what I have of my story! I'll have to dig around and see if I have your e-mail.

Also, depending on fandom and pairing (if any) I could possibly rec some things to you.

Hey, so I don't know if you have my most current email address; it is kelliann.baker@gmail.com.

Also, I have always been a James/Lily fan and that's what I've been filling my kindle with most recently, but if you know of any Hermione/Charlie W or Harry/Luna, I'd be open to those too. I don't care if it's AU, canon pre-book 4, 5, etc., any of it is fine. If you just know of any good websites that'd be nice. It seems to me a lot of stuff was removed from my old haunts...

Hmm... Of course you've picked pairings I don't have much experience with... I always rec restrictedsection.org, because you can search by pairing and all sorts of other things, but I can't vouch for the quality over there.
