If it makes her feel any better, I have absolutely no idea what subnational divisions Finland may or may not have.

Thank you, but considering how many Canadian and American tv-shows I watch, I should know more about them. Also, my sister is saying something about learning about them in school...

You learn about our individual states in your school system? Huh. We barely even acknowledge Canada's provinces here and completely ignore the states of Mexico, let alone the subdivisions of other countries.

Also, I doubt you're much worse off than the normal American citizen when it comes to geography.

I'm not sure about the current curriculum but I remember learning the main imports and exports of every country in the world and at least few things about their geography and history in grade school.

I used to know all the names of your great lakes, the main points of your history (like which states were confederate and who the generals were) and the names of all your presidents... Also, I used to now which states made up the 'Iron Belt', what's the difference between Washington and Washington DC and something about tea in Boston harbor. Then there's the great depression and the reasons leading up to it, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Lee Harvey Oswald, Malcolm X...

Nowadays I'm lucky if I remember my own name.
