I was going to post a whole rant and raving, but then I talked to my mum and dad, they said it sucks, but at least I got a raise and maybe next time I'll get more.
I'll be blunt, though...that's about average for a raise at SB. The most I ever heard of anyone getting when I worked for 'em was 22¢ And I think the biggest I ever got, as a shift supervisor, was 18¢. Sucks, but that's how they work.
Ah, ok. Thanks for letting me know. I've just gotten bigger raises from past jobs, so I was expecting a bit more. Not a lot, but more than what I got. At least now I know what to expect.
The quickest way to get a decent raise is to do 1 of 2 things:
1) Get a promotion. You automatically jump to base pay for that position. When I made shift, I jumped close to $1.50 an hour. And since you've been there six months, I'd suggest letting your manager know if you're interested in maybe making shift. :)
2) Move to a plae where the cost of living is higher. They have to adjust your pay to reflect the payscale of the are you're living (of course, that also works in reverse, too). I jumped $3.00 moving to L.A. It's a more drastic measure, though. *g*
SB has great benefits and all, but their system for giving raises really sucks. Look at the bright side, though...I worked with a girl who averaged 7¢ a raise.
I've touched the topic of shift with the assistant manager. Our store is partnered with another more busy store since ours is so small. The problem is that if I want to be shift right now I'd have to move to a different store, and I don't really want that right now. It would mean longer to and from work, different hours. I don't want to open at 4:30, there aren't any buses running there that early. :P
Yeah the former asst. manager moved to whistler and they're paying half her rent for a while or something. But I'll keep moving to another time. ;)
