I love my new computer, but my wireless signal sucks. I have my Linksys router (2.4 GHz 54g) hooked up to my main PC, but the signal to my notebook is very low. Even when it's only 12-15 feet away. I'm wondering if it's a problem with my router or is there something I have to do something to my new notebook. I was talking with one of our regular ( Read more... )

I have a Linksys router too. The first one I got was faulty, and made the signal really, really weak and we had to take it bake and replace it. Apparently quite a few of them are like that, so maybe you should have it checked. The new one we have works fine :)

Yeah, I got it a few years ago. It worked fine on my old laptop when I had the thingy plugged into it, but I guess that since it's not using that anymore the router sucks. I can't afford a new one. :(

He is right about the singal being able to pick it up 2 blocks away. I don't think it is the notebook itself. My best guess is the problem is the router or the PC. Or it just might be how you set it up.

It's set up fine, or at least I don't see any problem with it. I hope it's not my PC. I can't afford a new router. :\

I set up my aunt's new laptop on wireless this weekend and we kept getting 'little or no connectivity' type of messages, despite the fact that the desktop did just fine on the same network. After 45 minutes on the phone with the cable company, we finally got it to work by doing a hard reset of the modem itself (there was a button on the back I had to push in with a pen). Not sure if your problem could be similar or not, but thought I'd mention it. :-)

Thanks. :) I unhooked and reset a bunch of stuff, so it seems to work a little better, but not as good as it could be.

I was having this problem last month when I got my new laptop. Go to the shortcut menu on the bottom right side of your screen, find the Wireless Network Connections icon. It looks like a little computer with two )) coming out of it to the right. Open it then Click View Wireless Networks. Make Sure Linksys is the prominent connection. You have one built into the computer, and you need to switch it over to the linksys connection. This worked for mine.

I don't have one similar to it. :( You can use mine, if you don't mind my username on it. :)
