Personally I don't think it matters. I mean, you know who the Torchwood characters are and that's about all you really need to know for the finale of S4 DW (oh god stupid finale *HAET*). That and a few characters show up from the Sarah Jane Adventures but I mean you saw who she was from S2 School Reunion ep so you're fine.

*shrug*

Do they have the same amount of eps? LOL

P.S. Yay for your mum doing well :D

It doesn't really matter that much but I would as there are a few things in TW season 2 that pop up in Season 4 of DW.

And YAY for you mom coming through surgery without any major hicups. Here's hoping she gets to healing quickly.

*scampers off to finally watch Season 3 of Supernatural*

She said she wanted to mow the lawn today... I told her if she did I'd break her other knee in half. :P

*de-lurks for a second* It doesn't matter until the S4 Finale of DW. It's VERY important that you watch Torchwood S2's finale first, trust me.

What eryslash said, it does not matter up until Episodes 12 and 13 of S4 of Doctor Who.

You Need to watch Episodes 12 and 13 of S2 of TW before you watch the end of DW.

I just had to explain to a former professor of mine that she had to watch it before because there are quotes in DW that reference the events at the end of TW.

PS- Glad to hear about your mom :D

You may also want to watch the "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane?" two parter of The Sarah Jane Adventures before the episode "Turn Left" in series four. There's stuff in the SJA eps which is helpful to know to wholly understand the story in that one.

No, it doesn't really matter. I only watched the eps of TW that Martha appeared in and I was fine with DW. I hate TW, BTW, so if I can get what's going on, you can. They try to write TW and DW in certain ways, so they're not so closely linked you have to watch one to get what's going on on the other. I suspect the rift will grow even larger now that Steven Moffatt is showrunner for DW and not RTD.

Ah, okies. Thanks for letting me know. I can see how different the two shows are, so I guess they won't be linking too much to each other, otherwise the audience on both sides would just get confused if they didn't watch the other show.
