Seeing as this is National Novel Writing Month, I figured it was time to start putting fingers to keyboard and actually write some of the fan fiction that has been floating around my head for who knows how long. So I sit down, start typing, and all is good for the first week. Then confusion sets in - where in this world am I making our Merry Band ( Read more... )

Hey there hey! :D

Would you mind putting the image under a cut since it's so big? It messes with people's flists otherwise. And can you put a subject in the subject line? "Seeker Map" would be fine. :3

With so many places already created in the books, I always thought it was a little weird that the show made up so many places from scratch. (Or why they didn't at least take some more names from the books anyway.)

I haven't read the books yet, but from doing my own searching I have to agree with you. It's like the books and show don't even take place in the same place. Very frustrating.

Yeah, I'd have to rewatch the show to be completely certain, but I think there's only six places they have in common- Aydindril, the People's Palace, Palace of the Prophets (which is in the city Tanimura in the books, so it's technically where you have the Pillars of Creation on your map), Agaden Reach, the Pillars of Creation, and Hartland. Otherwise the show made up everything else. Which is weird to me, because they spend hardly any time in those places.

I was also rather bummed with the design for Aydindril in the show, because the Confessors Palace in the books is a ginormous marble palace (easily as grand as the People's Palace in its own ways), not a tiny wood/stone fortress. But that was only one episode, so thankfully it wasn't all that bothersome. :)

My own theory has always been that since they deviated from the books so much that they just made up their own place names to avoid fans being able to say "But that's not what happened there!"
