Hey, don't knock the grunt work. The sails are always important, so are the ropes, so is most everything on the ship. Grunts keep a ship running, and every grunt NEEDS to learn how to run the ship. Bad things happen to pirates, after all.
As for what you can do... Either devote yourself to a life as a neer-do-well, or convert her into a pleasure liner.
I think Pidmon never bothered to teach me because I was just onboard temporarily, there were loads of us, and she had remarkable luck with pirates. Plus I think he only let me on because Shar told him to. With Hotaru, we didn't leave port all that often.
