Still waiting on Congress to get their act together and do something. My agency is supposed to be getting: a) annual funding for the fiscal year that started a month ago; b) money for infrastructure upgrades in the reconciliation bill; and c) a shiny new authorization act which should (at last check) authorize more than doubling our budget over the next five years. Of course, all of this has been up in the air because certain members of the current majority are prima donnas who have their heads up their collective asses and are, in typical Democratic party fashion, determined to tank their party's chances of any legislative progress, and probably lose the white house the next go-round.

My work zen mantra is coming out a lot these days ("They pay me the same no matter what; they pay me the same no matter what..."). That's a short way of saying, "You know, I'm doing what I can, most of this is out of my control, and the lack of progress is in no way a reflection of how hard or how efficiently I am doing my job, so just accept that it is what it is, and regardless of which way it goes, I'm still employed, and I'll be employed taking care of the results, whatever they are."

In knitting, I'm working on a slouchy hat for myself. Have long wanted one, but just never got around to it. So I'm working on that with some light finger weight yarn (needle size 7/4.5mm) in a reddish base that should go well with the cowl I did a couple years ago. Brim is done, working on the body now. Not a difficult pattern by any stretch of the imagination, which is nice for some TV watching.

Foot is still being annoying. I've been wearing stiff shoes in the house during the day, which is giving the offending tendon a rest. I hate wearing them at home, but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. I did try a run - got all geared up, went outside to warm up, and while warming up it was clearly a "no", so I stopped. It's annoying as hell, but I know I just need to rest it and let it heal, so I'm gritting my teeth and doing that. I need a zen mantra for injuries ("this is annoying as fuck, but it'll heal"?). Heh.

Been using the bottom room we rearranged for knitting and TV watching because I find the light and the chair down there better for that than our couch (I like our couch, but it was a compromise between my short legs and his long ones, so long term sitting can be challenging for me). Our cat Ezri has enjoyed having me down there because Benjamin (the other cat) doesn't usually come down, so she has me to herself. He does pop down on occasion, but because it's a chair and not the couch she can stay up high and bat at him to keep him from jumping up with us. Jealous little beastie.
