[After spending a good amount of time enjoying civilization in Violet, Clive decided to go investigate the nearby ruins. He's taken the chance to go train his insect-phobic Ponyta, but the poor horse doesn't seem to like the closed areas of the ruins either.

He's decided to take a detailed video for your viewing pleasure.]

And this wall here has even ( Read more... )

What do you think the symbols mean?

Well, I would like to think that they're some sort of writing, although I don't think such a limited number here indicate pictographs.

I'm kind of hoping figuring this out will shed some light on how I got here, but realistically, ruins like this can only talk about the exploits of some long-dead monarch, right?

Like an ancient sort of language? That'd be cool. Maybe they didn't have as many letters or symbols back then.

That's why people like exploring old tombs that they find to discover new things about old things. It's a good theory.

Perhaps. Languages using pictographs tend to have comparatively large numbers of different symbols--although...I don't think anything around thirty or so symbols is very useful unless as permutations of letters. I guess it must be some kind of code, then.

Well, most people go for treasure, but I do prefer information in most cases. And the occasional puzzle is quite enjoyable. Have you gone exploring any ruins yourself?

Maybe each symbol is a letter and... there could be punctuation?

I haven't actually gotten that far, I'm only in Cherrygrove City.

That may very well be the case, though--does it seem odd to you that everyone here mysteriously speaks the same language even though we're all from different places? And quite fluently too, I might add.

Ah, pardon my presumption. If there's anything I can help you with, please let me know.

Actually, yeah. When I got here I was talking to someone and she wondered how I knew Japanese, and I said that I didn't, that I was speaking English. So I guess she 'switched' to English as what had been fluent before... wasn't as fluent.

No, it's okay, you didn't know. And I will do, thanks.

There does seem to be an overabundance of people from Japan here. I'm beginning to think that all this is somewhat linked to that country.

Very well. My name is Clive Dove, it's a pleasure to meet you.

Another good theory. You're good at this, though I hope we can at least get some answers.

It's nice to meet you too, I'm Kitty.

Thank you. I was an investigative journalist, so you could say I have a bit of practice.

If you're planning to travel to Violet City, I'd advise the purchase of antidotes--some of the bug Pokemon in the area are poisonous.
