Feel like your life is a dead end? Have a look at the LA Times Interactive Homicide Map. It's an endless litany of the stories (and sometimes faces) of poor people cut down young. Chilling.

Interactive Homocide Tool seems defective elsparquito October 9 2007, 19:42:58 UTC
Dear LA Times Editor:

I've recently been made aware of your new interactive homicide tool on the Internet. I realize that newspaper sales are down and you guys need to branch into new areas for revenue and I think that's fine. I tried to use your new tool to take care of a few "problems" that I've had in the LA area in the past, but I can't quite figure out your interface. Perhaps this letter should be forwarded to your technical support team.

I understand where I'm supposed to enter the age, race, and sex of the victim - and offering to have the job done by a police officer is really unique feature that none of your competitors offer yet, but I don't see the "Kill Now" button. Or the part where I enter my credit card number.

Since there's no field to enter the exact name of the victim, do I just keeping submitting job requests until I see the name of the specific person I'm interested in show up in the list?

Or maybe I'm not really understanding the whole "Interactive Homocide Tool" concept...

Interesting that there are twice as many homicides on Sunday than during the week. Must have something to do with more people getting the Times on Sundays...

Yikes, people! You can actually see which real people are getting killed and learn a tiny bit about their lives. This inspires a certain amount of there-but-for-the-grace-of-God in me.

And Sparky... they only do PayPal.

I'm strangely interested in these types of things. Thanks for the link.
