Ohh, I love, love, love that poem. I especially love the last stanza. Simple yet effective. And John Hannah did a brilliant job of reading it in Four Weddings and a Funeral. Makes me cry every time =(

Yes, it's beautiful isn't it? A lot of poems that have you know, a regular pentameter and rhyming couplets often sound twee and silly, but this one is one of my favourite's ever, it's so moving. I particularly love the third stanza because of the imagery (there goes that word again =P) but I'm always moved when I watch the film and he says "I thought love would last forever: I was wrong.", and his voice just cracks in the last three words... Gets me every time.

All I remember from that movie is Duck a la Banana. But it's a very moving poem.

Hmm, I don't remember Duck a la Banana. But I do remember the deaf brother signing "Beautiful girl. Enormous Breasts." and William translating it as "Lovely area. Hilly." =P
